What is High Self-Esteem?
This page is provided to help one gain insight into their hair
loss and how hair loss can affect their self - esteem and self-confidence.
Feeling good about ourselves is a way of achieving a high self-esteem.
A positive self-esteem and self-confidence does not come easy. It
takes understanding, learning and effort.
Thirty-three years ago when I became a hair replacement specialist,
I mistakenly thought the individuals I served were interested only
in concealing their thin or bald scalps. This is not all true. I
have found that clients want to feel good about their appearance
to help achieve a higher self-esteem and build self-confidence.
The information I am about to share is intended to answer important
questions that are not discussed by most hair replacement specialists.
"What is a high self-esteem?"
Someone who is self confident, optimistic, satisfied with themselves,
assertive and aggressive. They are participators and facilitators
for themselves and others.
Ask yourself this: How much of my life is affected because of
my hair loss?
Do you avoid getting your hair wet because wet hair makes thin
spots more noticeable?
Have you changed your hair style to conceal your hair loss?
Do you wear hats frequently to hide your hair loss?
Have you avoided looking in mirrors at your reflection?
Do you dread windy days due to the potential of messing up your
hair and exposing your thin spot?
Have you limited your participation in activities?
Have you avoided developing new relationships?
Have you avoided seeing old friends because of being concerned
about your ongoing hair loss?
Have you noticed a change in your mood with friends and family
due to your feelings about your hair loss?
Are you perceived to be older then you are in your occupation or
relationships?
If you have experienced one or more of these areas, your self-esteem
has been adversely affected to some extent because of your hair
loss.
Hair addition: Building a stronger self-esteem
Identify and clarify your negative thoughts about your hair loss.
Weigh them against the advantages of looking and feeling better
with more hair.
